The bell peppers are grown for fresh market and sold through D.R.Walcher Farms. We harvest them by hand, and deliver them to the packing house were they washed, packed, and shipped out to various chain store distribution centers and terminal markets. We are currently growing Aristotle and Karisma.
Plastic Mulch Laying
We grow our bell peppers on plastic mulch covered beds. This allows to produce a earlier, better quality pepper and also provides us with better weed control.
The Jalapeños are grown the processing market. The hot jalapeños are typically sliced into rings for use in food service and into jars sold at retail.
The banana peppers are grown for the processing market. Bay Valley Foods is our main customer. They are sent to processing facilties in Michigan, Indiana and North Carolina where they are sliced into rings and pickled. The end product is usually sold to retail in jars or to food service and pizza and sandwich shops.
We harvest peppers with the aid of a Ramsay Highlander harvest conveyor. It is 100 feet long
